Tyler Nelson is an American film editor. He got an early start in commercials, and within his first year in Los Angeles, earned a highly coveted spot in the American Cinema Editors Internship program. Shortly thereafter, he found his way into the orbit of director David Fincher, as first assistant editor on The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Social Network (which earned an Academy Award for editors Angus Wall & Kirk Baxter), The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (another Academy Award for the pair), House of Cards, and Gone Girl.

 

In 2016, Tyler reunited with David Fincher, editing four episodes of the acclaimed Netflix series Mindhunter. He also edited the feature film Rememory, starring Peter Dinklage, Anton Yelchin, and Julia Ormond, which premiered at Sundance. Between seasons of Mindhunter, he took the opportunity to edit the Samira Wiley-led Lucky 13, a short film presented in Tim Miller’s sci-fi anthology series Love, Death & Robots for Netflix.

In addition to films and television, Tyler edited the music video for Justin Timberlake’s "Suit & Tie". He is also dedicated to giving back to the film editing community. During his tenure as David Fincher’s assistant editor, he earned a reputation for pushing the boundaries of cinematic technologies and post-production workflows. He developed a streamlining tool called Dispatch, which he recently sold to

PIX | System and will soon be available to cutting rooms more widely. Additionally, he serves as co-director of the ACE Internship program, and continues to mentor aspiring young editors.

 

Tyler resides in Los Angeles, and is on hiatus from editing The Batman for Matt Reeves and Warner Bros. Pictures. He is currently available for spot work.
